Safetly Labels We'd Like To See

In our over-litigated society, children are becoming the losers as their experiences and explorations are more and more limited by the fear of adults.   Gever Tulley has a book idea: 50 Dangerous Things You Should Encourage Your Child to Do, to give overly cautious parents more courage while raising their children.   While we wait for the book to take shape, he published these politcally incorrect warning labels for children's toys in Volume 7 of Make magazine, and has graciously given me permission to republish them here, just in time for the holidays.

Tulley created The Tinkering School in Montara, California; a school where kids - ages 7 to 17 - learn about the techniques and principles of building things in a collaborative environment.  He started the Tinkering School because it's the kind of place he himself would've liked to have experienced as a child.   Grand schemes, wild ideas, crazy notions, and intuitive leaps of imagination are, of course, encouraged and fertilized.

With any luck at all, we'll see more of Gever Tulley at the Joyful Noise website.
